Homeowners Meeting Notes
Board President Andy Tysler, who introduced VP Malcolm Jones and Caron Realty rep Ron Hutchinson, called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. Secretary/Treasurer Norm Klein was absent due to illness. About seven homeowners were in attendance. The minutes of the previous quarterly meeting in April were approved.
Homeowner Open Forum. Kris Donovan expressed her frustration at the proliferation of dog waste in the common areas, and requested the Board's support to help eliminate the problem. She has posted a reminder sign and plastic bags near her home, as well as talking to some "offenders" she has seen from her home office window. Andy will put a notice in the two bulletin boards by the mailboxes. Kris distributed copies of an article she had printed from the Internet, which contains lots of good reasons to pick up after a pet.
President's Report Asphalt. Andy reported that he had received bids for the asphalt work and selected a company to do the repairs. The resealing will be done next weekend. The streets of Maplewood and Carson will be closed on Thursday, August 17th at 8:00am and will reopen on Friday, August 18th at 11:00am. Blackhawk Ct. will be closed at 8:00am Friday, August 18th, and will reopen on Saturday, August 19th at 11:00am. During this time you will not be able to drive in or out of these streets. Park your car on Caley or Jordan if you need access to it or in your garage if you don't. Fortunately, there is enough money in the operating budget that this work can be done without having to tap in to reserve funds.
Voles. The HOA will pay for extermination one more time. After that, it will be the responsibility of the property owner to take care of vole damage on his/her own property. The HOA will only be responsible for the common areas.
Water Restrictions. It is not the responsibility of the HOA to reset everyone's sprinkler system to abide by the newly established regulations. Each homeowner will reset their own sprinklers to follow the guidelines in our latest water bill: no more than three days a week, only during the specified hours from 10 pm to 6 am, for no more than 15 minutes per zone, except for drip irrigation which has no time limit.
Recent Theft. The "S" is missing from the Blackhawk entrance sign and will have to be replaced. Ron advised that the insurance deductible was probably high enough to dissuade the Board from filing a claim. He will take care of getting it replaced. In light of this and other recent reports of vandalism in our neighborhood, Andy reminds all of us to keep our garage doors down and our vehicles locked to discourage the opportunity for theft.
Stonework. There is a lifetime guarantee on the stonework on our homes. Andy has the phone number of the company to call when stones break loose.
Design Review. Anne Nelson was not at the meeting, but she reported to Andy that the committee had approved 6 requests since the last meeting, mostly for landscaping enhancements. The exterior of one home has been repainted using the original colors, and three homes have installed the newly approved exterior light fixtures.
Grounds. Jim Murlin reported that stonework would be done at the entrances beginning within the next week. (As of now, this work has been completed.) The entrance upgrades are an ongoing project, and work will continue throughout the summer and into next spring. Stan Massey is reviewing the lawn maintenance contract in preparation for re-bidding. The current True Green contract expires on 1 October. Homeowners who have ideas for changes to the terms of the contract should contact Stan.

New Outdoor lights. If other homeowners wish to install the new approved outdoor lights, contact Ann Nelson. A minimum order of 10 lights is needed to obtain the same price as the original order.
Use BOBBEX-R to ward off rabbits. Homeowners who wish to deter rabbits from being in their yards should use a product called BOBBEX-R, which can be purchased at Tagawa.
The next quarterly Board meeting will be at 7:00pm on Wednesday, October 11th, at the home of Malcolm and Marilyn Jones. The annual meeting is scheduled for December 6th at Valley Country Club. Ron will ensure the club is reserved and Christmas cookies ordered!
**Thanks to Joan Liebchen & Malcolm Jones for input and notes.

Social Committee News
Clean Up Day 2006 was a great success thanks to the 50 or so folks who showed up to clean up, fix up, and chow down!! We started at Ralph and Janet Hanna's garage for homemade scones and muffins, coffee and juice. This year there was great organization of teams to plant flowers and plants, move dirt, clean up weeds and trash, all under the direction of a contract gardener. Lunch was served at 11:30am at the "Corner Piazza" on Blackhawk Ct. - an Italian themed repast with turkey, meatball and Italian sausage subs and pasta salad provided by Chicago Mike's Deli, and ending up with homemade lemon cookies and Spumoni. Thanks to Andy Tysler for providing the beer, and the Social Committee for the delightful Sangria. And thanks also to Barb Sydow for making the scones, muffins and lemon cookies.

OKTOBERFEST!! The next fun event for Sanctuary neighbors will be an Oktoberfest celebration to be held on September 23rd at the Blackhawk "Bier Garten" (formerly the Corner Piazza) starting at 5:00pm. It will be an evening of great fun and food and you won't want to miss it. Look for a flyer delivered to your front door shortly after Labor Day and be sure to respond by Friday Sept. 19th to let the Social Committee know you will be attending. The cost per person will be $5 and that will buy you all you can eat brats, salad, fixins', dessert and beverages. What a deal!! Mark your calendar and get ready for an oom-pa-pa good time!!
