Survey Says …..

In response to complaints from a few residents about snow removal depths, Kris Donovan called every resident in Sanctuary to get their thoughts on what would be reasonable accumulations to have snow removed from driveways and sidewalks. The results of this poll are as follows:

              2"           --      14%
              2-4"        --      10%
              4" and above -  76%

Based on the results of this survey, as our current policy calls for snow removal at amounts of 4" and above, there will be no changes to this policy. Thank you Kris for your efforts to call every homeowner to make sure we have their input.

Caron Realty - New Management

As of April 1, 2004, Caron Realty, Inc. is managing the Sanctuary Homeowners Association. The Board felt a change from Management Specialists was in the best interests of our community and after much research and a request for bids, Caron Realty was chosen, based on their proven track record in handling small communities such as ours. We appreciate the efforts of our Board to use our dues wisely to procure the best, and most efficient management for our community.

Off Jordan Book Club

Who murdered Jacques Sauniere and why in Da Vinci Code? What's the difference between atonement and forgiveness in Atonement? Do you continue to find Wal-Mart's "always low prices" as attractive after reading Nickel and Dimed? What do we learn about persistence in Seabiscuit?
These and more questions stir healthy conversation about books and ideas in the year-old Off Jordan Book Club. The group includes 10 or so residents of Sanctuary on the Park and adjoining Villas at Valley.
Participants volunteer to lead the discussion and host the monthly meetings at 7:00pm on the second Monday of each month. Upcoming books are to be Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons in April and Five Quarters of the Orange in May. Among the books the group discussed were Life of Pi, Bel Canto, Cry, The Beloved Country, Back When We Were Grownups, Dive From Clausen's Pier, and The Secret Life of Bees.
You're welcome to join the club. Call Carol Race at 303-400-3451 for details of the next meetings.

A Big Belated Thank You . . . .

To Judy Coover for updating our telephone directory and list of committees and contact people. It was a huge project, with lots of changes to be recorded and we appreciate her hard work and dedication in producing a fine new, easy to read, up to date directory. If you have any new changes, please call Judy at 303-690-1073 for inclusion in future updates.

Wild Bird Habitat

We completed the preparations for the upcoming spring on February 18th. All the habitats were resurfaced with linseed oil and checked for damage. Our friendly Flickers managed to peck all the way through the bottom of two of the Kestrel/Flicker habitats. Replacing the base repaired both of these. Several of the habitats also had wear on the sides of the box caused by the Flickers as they use the box to draw a mate by pounds on the inside of the box. We also filled the entire Kestrel/Flicker boxes with cedar shavings to the top and secured a Popsicle sized piece of wood over the opening. This will frustrate and deter the blackbirds from using the boxes since they will not go to the trouble of breaking through. We saw evidence of this already as blackbirds were seen trying to enter one of the boxes only to leave when they couldn't get in. Flickers and Kestrels, on the other hand, will make quick work of the obstruction. We're hoping it works this year. We will check the habitats during the spring clean up activity, taking inventory and doing any necessary repairs. Last year we were also able to get several good pictures for the Web Site.

A special thank you is due to Ron Robinson who helped with the resurfacing and repairs. If you would like to get involved with our habitat during the spring cleanup please give me a call at 720-870-7407.

Get 'em now
Janet Hanna suggests putting out wasp traps to attract wasps, especially the Queen, and keep them from building nests in the nooks and crannies of our homes.

Sprinkler Turn-on Time
Don't forget that Monday, April 12 the sprinklers for all homes will be turned on. If you turn them on inside your home remember to post a note to inform our landscaper so they can continue with the outside work. Thanks.

Architectural Control Committee Reminder
Carol Race is our new Chairman of the Architectural Control committee, which, in advance of work being done must approve changes or additions to property or landscape in the Sanctuary. Please submit detailed drawings, including specific names of plants, etc. to Carol for review or call her for further information.

Like Hummingbirds?
April 15th may be US "Tax Day" but it is also a significant day in our efforts to attract hummingbirds. Feeders, cleaned and filled, should be put up on that day so that migrating hummingbirds will be encouraged to hang around for the summer instead of heading down to Mexico. They're so cute!
