SYLVILAGAS FLORIDANUS (continued)
-
Seldom Damaged - Woody Plants - Boxwood, Butterfly bush
Perennials - Hollyhock, Columbine, Cactus, Foxglove, Daylily & Shasta Daisy
Annuals - Marigold, Four O'clock, Geranium and Wax Begonia
Control: No toxicants or fumigants are registered for use against rabbits. Neither is the use of mothballs or crystals labeled for use. Chemical repellants using the fungicide thiram may discourage rabbit browsing but repellents should be applied before damage occurs and after a rain, heavy dew or new plant growth. Seek out the burrows dug under the concrete slabs on back and front porches. Fill them in and use an appropriate wire mesh covering to prevent re-entry (make certain it is buried at east 3 inches deep). Because they live only in a limited area, this will tend to concentrate the rabbit population in the common area where natural predation will help keep the population in check.

Book Club Would Welcome New Members
One joy of reading a stirring, gripping novel is sharing insights about the theme and author with others who've read the same book.
If that's you and you love stimulating books you might consider joining the Off Jordan Book Club. The club consists of your Sanctuary on the Park and Villas neighbors who enjoy good fiction.
"Plainsong" by Kent Haruf is the December selection. The group will gather Dec. 13 with Janet Hanna as the leader. You're welcome to join the club, whether or not you've read the book about life in the eastern Colorado small-town of Hoyt.
The group this fall discussed "All the King's Men," the Robert Penn Warren masterpiece; "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides, which won a Pulitzer Prize, and "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseini, a story of forgiveness set in modern Afghanistan. In January, the club will take on "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight" and in February it'll be time to renew acquaintances with "Grapes of Wrath."
Please call Carol Race about meeting times and places.
God Rest Ye Restless Gentlemen And Caroling Thee Shall Go
Let's go caroling from home to home in our neighborhood the evening of December 20.
The idea will be to harmonize a capella and have some fun together to awaken the inner child in us to the joys of singing and having fun.
We're looking for sopranos (not of HBO malevolence), altos, tenors and basses who can harmonize on "Jingle Bells," "Silent Night" and "Deck the Malls" er "Halls." Music will be provided. Or not.
We'll meet at the Sam and Joan Searcy home, run through our repertoire and head out warmly dressed to sing on the front porches of homes in the neighborhood. If you're home, that is. No fair just turning off all your lights and hiding in the basement. Oh, and we just might welcome being invited in for a cookie or two before tra-la-la-ing off.
Of course, dogs should be muzzled in that baying at the quality of the singing would not be appreciated
Let us know we can expect you. The more the merrier. You don't have to sing good to join us. Just sing. Please call Joan, 303-617-6272, or leave a message. Otherwise, you'll be serenaded by a duet!

Only 15 neighbors showed up for our last HOA meeting. Are you OK with the idea that less than 15% of our neighborhood make decisions for the rest of us?
