Meet your new neighbors

The newest resident of Sanctuary is an adorable baby girl born on September 28, 2006 to Benson and Ada Tan. Weighing in at 6.3 pounds and a petite 19" long, Alicia is perfectly precious and her folks are delighted and thankful for her safe arrival. Welcome Alicia, we're going to love getting to know you!

Brown Evergreens

Question:  A number of evergreen trees in my neighborhood have yellow and brown needles. Do they have a disease?

Answer:   It's normal in the fall for interior evergreen needles
to turn yellow or brown and drop off. Evergreens retain their needles for different lengths of time before they shed them. Ponderosa pines, for example, typically shed their 3-year old needles every fall.
This year the needle drop is more noticeable than in recent years. Environmental conditions including drought, heat, poor nutrition and excessive soil moisture (in some situations) are believed to be the culprit. If needles other than the interior ones are yellowing or browning, contact the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension office in your county to ask for assistance.

The Shoppes at Arapahoe Commons

The developer, Opus Northwest, L.L.C., held a second public meeting on Oct. 17, 2006 regarding their development of the property at the northeast corner of Arapahoe and Jordan Roads. They appear to be on schedule for a fall 2007 opening of the phase 1 buildings (2). The current plan is to go before the Aurora Planning Commission in January and the City Council in February, with groundbreaking to follow immediately.

The phase 1 development will include all landscaping and infrastructure, including the extension of the Cherry Creek Trail bike path to connect with the segment bordering the Xcel substation on Arapahoe Rd. Access to the development will be via a right-in/right-out on Arapahoe Rd. about 800 ft. east of the Jordan Rd. intersection. The right-turn lane from Arapahoe Rd. to Jordan Rd. will be extended to become an acceleration/deceleration lane for this entire 800 ft. portion. In addition, there will be an exit from the development onto Jordan Rd. Jordan Rd. will be widened north of Arapahoe to allow for additional traffic through the Arapahoe/Jordan intersection.

Additional details can be obtained from Malcolm Jones or Stan and Linda Massey. The developer's web site for this project is at: (all one line)
